Retromat

At first glance Chelmer’s new low-profile underfloor heating system called ‘The Retromat’ could be mistaken for electrical underfloor matting. Nothing could be further from the truth however. To suit current market trends, Chelmer have opened the door into the retrofit market with this extraordinary product, tried and tested in Germany but new to the UK market.
The Retromat is very easy to lay and comes with its own self-levelling screed and special insulation board, producing a total constructed height of only 25mm with a response time of only 25 minutes! This makes it perfectly suited to retrofitting, extensions and in scenarios where a fast reacting system is required.
The Retromat system also comes with its own compact and versatile manifold and control system but it can also be connected directly to an existing radiator system if required. Things really get interesting when you connect the Retromat underfloor system to an ‘Ecocat’ thermal store however, in a well insulated house we can now run a heat pump at 27-30°C, giving an astounding CoP of 5!

Features & Benefits

- Operates at 30°C for increased efficiency
- Perfect for heat pump systems
- Easy to install
- Only 24mm construction height
- Underfloor or wall heating
- New builds or retro-fit
- Pre-assembled water carrying heating mat in three different sizes
- Twice the heating capacity per m² with two heating circuits per heating mat with counter-flow arrangement
- Heat distribution across the entire area due to additional copper armouring above the heater pipe
- Short reaction time (ca. 20 minutes)
- Self levelling screed

The Pipe

- PE-RT pipe Ø8 x 1 mm
- Oxygen-proof seal up to 98%
- Can withstand up to 6 bar pressure and 90°C
- Manufactured according to DIN 4726
- Continuous production controls
- Heating output depending on the forward temperature 75 to 100 watt/m², e.g.: 30°C flow = 85 watt/m²

Only 24 mm!

The UFH system consists of an insulation board (9 mm Phonotherm),
the heating mat (9 mm) and a minimum of 15 mm of self-levelling screed on top of the mat bringing it up to a minimum height of 24 mm. This is unique in the underfloor heating market where most systems work with 15 mm pipes and 50 mm screed on top! It can simply be laid on top of wooden floorboards and tiled directly onto the screed.

Easy Installation

- Apply a preparatory layer to the existing screed floor
- Lay down the copper heating map
- Use flexible adhesive to fasten the heating mat in place
- Insert the pipes of the heating mat (8mm) into the preinstalled Retromat individual room controls (space between the marks = insertion depth)
- Perform a pressure test and check function (test the output of the circulating pump)
- For level concrete floors: edge insulation strips, PU hard foam insulation, 9mm uncoupling plate, USH mat, leveling compound
5mm above the “highest” point
